Actually, the cake is sweet enough, and bakes for long enough, that you do not need to pre-cook the cranberries. Just spread them out on the bottom of the pan, and drizzle very lightly with a bit of syrup. You can drizzle more syrup on them after the cake is baked.

3/4 c oil 3/4 c sugar (brown) 2 tb syrup 2 eggs 1 1/2 c flour 1 t baking soda Spices (optional) 1 apple, diced very fine 3/4 c crushed walnuts/pecans (in food processor)
